Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has an opening for a Mechanical or Civil Engineer at our Experimental Test Site (Site 300) near Tracy, California. You will be responsible for the operations, maintenance and planning of regulated water and wastewater systems and have technical responsibility as a Mechanical or Civil Engineer for interpreting requirements, system design, organizing, planning and executing projects for the installation and maintenance of mechanical utility systems. Interactions will be with LLNL multi-crafts personnel, peers, program representatives, facility managers, LLNL management and external firms.

Depending on your experience level you may also be a technical leader on large projects/programs associated with the operation and maintenance of LLNL's diverse collection of mechanical utility systems and serve as the spokesperson for the Mechanical Utilities Division on specialized projects or programs.

- Provide oversight of the day-to-day operations of LLNL's Site 300 potable water and wastewater systems.
- Develop master plans for the mechanical utility systems to ensure reliability of service for current demands and to accommodate future growth.
- Develop predictive and preventive maintenance programs for water and wastewater systems.
- Perform design work for modifications to or renovations of mechanical utility systems, including water, wastewater, cooling water, gas, compressed air and steam utilities.
- Size and select mechanical equipment, controls (direct digital and pneumatics as required), and piping for design projects.
- Act as Lead Engineer on multi-disciplinary design teams.
- Act as the Design Manager on single-discipline or multi-disciplinary team design projects.

- Bachelor's degree in an applicable Engineering discipline (Mechanical or Civil Engineering) or the equivalent level of demonstrated knowledge.
- Significant experience in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of water and/or wastewater distribution, collection and treatment systems regulated by the state of California.
- Significant experience in planning and designing mechanical utility systems, building mechanical systems, process piping systems and environmental compliance projects.
- Significant experience in design management, including project planning, scheduling and cost estimating.
- Experience preparing professional services estimates and setting project budgets.
- Experience providing technical leadership on projects.
- Ability to adhere to project schedules.
- Knowledge of the California statutes related to Drinking Water and AWWA Standards. 

- California Professional Engineering Registration in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
- Certification in the State of California as a Water Treatment, Water Distribution System and/or Wastewater Treatment Operator.
- Knowledge of applicable DOE Orders, Federal Standards.
- Experience with environmental compliance issues.
- Membership in professional organizations such as ASHRAE, ASME, etc.
- Knowledge of LLNL's Integrated Safety Management System.
