Orleans Arean Achieves Leed Gold Certification 2014

First Arena in Nevada to Receive Prominent Sustainability Recognition

LAS VEGAS – MARCH 10, 2014 – Boyd Gaming Corporation today announced that the Orleans Arena has been awarded LEED Gold certification for existing buildings by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The Orleans Arena is the first arena in the state of Nevada to receive LEED Gold recognition.  It joins a handful of prominent arenas across the country in achieving the prominent sustainability recognition, including AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, Amway Center in Orlando, Fla., Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Philips Arena in Atlanta, the Moda Center in Portland, Ore., and the Toyota Center in Houston.

The certification caps a multi-year effort to incorporate sustainable practices throughout the Arena’s operations.  Through a variety of measures – most completely unnoticeable to guests -- the Arena significantly reduced its energy consumption, and reduced the amount of waste sent to local landfills by 25 percent.

“At Boyd Gaming, our commitment to sustainability is an important part of our Company’s culture,” said Paula Eylar-Lauzon, Vice President of Sustainability for Boyd Gaming.  “As demonstrated by the successful effort to achieve LEED Gold certification at the Orleans Arena, we are committed to promoting sustainability across our business.”

The Orleans Arena is the second Boyd Gaming facility in Nevada to receive LEED certification.  In 2009, the Company’s Linen and Uniform service in Henderson received LEED Silver certification, making it the nation’s first industrial laundry to receive that designation. The facility saves over 20 million gallons of water per year and utilizes recycled heating and cooling mechanisms to maximize power efficiency.

“We strive to offer the best possible guest experience while keeping our operations green,” said Eylar-Lauzon. “Over the last seven years, we have reduced our energy consumption in Nevada alone by nearly 29 million kilowatt-hours annually – enough to power 2,250 homes for an entire year. Sustainability benefits our business and the environment, and we will strive to continue using energy and natural resources in a smart and efficient manner.”
