Youth Center Director San Diego American Indian Health Center October 13, 2014

The San Diego American Indian Health Center’s Youth Center provides early intervention to at-risk youth in the San Diego urban American Indian Community.  The primary goal of the program, funded through the County of San Diego, is to promote the health and well-being of American Indian youth (ages 10-24).  Youth Center Director (YCD) will coordinate all efforts and activities of the Youth Center and will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.

A qualified candidate has a master’s degree with experience in mental health services and/or education.  Experience in the American Indian community, strong communication skills, and cultural sensitivity are strongly desired.
 
The YC is an after school program which provides educational, health, therapeutic, recreational and cultural activities for Native youth.  The YC Director will perform bio-psycho-social intakes for all youth; supervise youth center employees; provide early intervention for Native youth and families as needed; coordinate all youth center activities; and show leadership in developing the program while further integrating its functions with the behavioral health and medical departments.
 
Preference in filling the vacancy is given to qualified American Indian applicants in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC Section 472).
