Research Reveals Impact of the Retreat
For the past 13 years girls and young women with significant disfigurements due to burns or other traumatic related injuries have participated in week long healing retreats.
The evaluations of the Angel Faces retreat were designed to help increase resilience and positive coping in young women recovering from disfiguring injuries from burns and other trauma. Findings showed that participants who attended the week of the retreat measured significant improvements on all 6 measures, with the differences reaching statistical significance on three of the measures, in the areas of self- esteem, quality of life, and depression.
This evaluation, is based on questionnaires completed by all of our participants (pre and post retreat) who have attended from 2009-2016.
This study has been completed by Michael Murphy, Ph.D from Massachusetts General Hospital, and Angel Faces Board member.  Murphy and members of his team from Massachusetts General Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children-Boston, and the Harvard Medical School in Boston assisted in the study.   Dr. Murphy
is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the Harvard Medical School and the author of more than 80 papers evaluating mental health and other programs for children and adults.  Full research results can be found on our website.  www.angelfaces.com
