2014 PATHSTAR Alcatraz Swim Week members gave a workshop (PATHSTAR Alcatraz Swim Program: Swimming for Life, One Stroke at a Time) at the American Indian Institute 17th Annual Native Diabetes Prevention Conference (January 25-28) in Phoenix, AZ. The conference brought together health advocates from American Indian, Alaska Native and Canadian First Nation communities. PATHSTAR participants (l-r): Elizabeth Best (Colville Confederated Tribes, WA); Joey Cohen (Confederated Colville Tribes, Okanogan Band, WA); Shelli Martinez, (Confederated Colville Tribes, Okanogan Band, WA); PATHSTAR Director Nancy Iverson, M.D.; Travis Bessette and Theresa Bessette (Colville Confederated Tribes, WA). The annual swim week is a component of a year-round program that encourages healthy nutrition and active lifestyle practices.
